2009 Toyota Highlander
Overview
The 2009 Toyota Highlander, a mid-size crossover sport utility vehicle, gets new models with a 4-cylinder engine. With a folding third row seat and second row bucket seats it accommodates up to seven passengers. It is available in Base, Sport, Limited, and gas/electric Hybrid trims.
Power and Performance
A new 187 horsepower, 2.7-liter, 4-cylinder engine powers the Base trim. A 270-hp, 3.5-liter, V6 engine is optional on the Base, Sport, and Limited trims. The 4-cylinder engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, while V6 engine employs a 5-speed automatic. Most 2009 Toyota Highlander trims are available with a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configuration. The Hybrid mode uses a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The conventional V6 models tow up to 5000 pounds while the Hybrids tow close to 3500 pounds.
Body and style
17-inch alloy wheels, rearview camera monitor, and air conditioning are standard on the five-passenger Base model. The Limited trim gets 19-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, a power rear liftgate, and heated front seats along with third row bench seat taking the seating capacity to seven (optional on the Base). The interior of the 2009 Highlander boasts of a front defroster-linked CFC-free air conditioning system with air filter, AM/FM CD player with MP3/WMA playback capability, and six speakers as some of the prominent standard features.
Safety features
Anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, active anti-whiplash front head restraints, electronic vehicle stability and traction control systems, front side-impact airbags, and overhead curtain airbags for all rows are standard safety equipment.
